Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services

problem

Berkeley CA's city-run municipal shelter, Berkeley Animal Care Services, does not have a dedicated website and cannot feature its adoptable animals online. The nonprofit Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services (FoBACS) has taken over this responsibility, however their previous site was difficult for volunteers to maintain, not mobile responsive, and dated in appearance.

objectives

  • Create a contemporary, easy-to-use website for people wanting info about Berkeley's animal shelter and the homeless animals available for adoption.
  • Increase donations to Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services.
  • Facilitate and increase animal adoptions.
  • Emphasize social sharing for available animals.
  • Promote donations to Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services.
  • Increase awareness of FoBACS and its important role in helping fund programs at the city animal shelter.
  • Create an administrative interface that was easy for volunteers to access, edit content, and add/remove animals.

process

Conduct extensive research on other animal shelters and advocacy group websites. Generate user stories for visitor, organizational, and administrative stakeholders. Develop site-wide style sheet and overall theme.
